On January 16 at 4 p.m., a screening and discussion of the film “The Investigation” will take place at the Kasino Leverkusen. Excerpts from the film will be shown. Afterwards, the historian Dr. Sara Berger from the Fritz Bauer Institute and advisory board member of the Finkelstein Foundation will speak with the chairwoman of the works council of Bayer AG Heike Hausfeld, the film producer Alexander van Dülmen and the actor Thomas Meinhardt.
“The Investigation” is based on the play of the same name by Peter Weiss from 1964, which deals with the Auschwitz trial (1963-1965) in Frankfurt. Under the direction of RP Kahl, 60 actors adapted the play for the big screen. The film and play examine how the extermination in Auschwitz was organized and what responsibility the defendants bore. Weiss also addresses the role of industry, including IG Farben and the Bayer Group. The leadership at the time perceived the play as an attack on their actions and on capitalism. In addition, in the 1960s, many Nazi perpetrators were still or again in leading positions. It is all the more important today to take moral responsibility for the crimes of IG Farben during the National Socialist era. The educational material and the website for the film “The Investigation” are supported by the Hans and Berthold Finkelstein Foundation.
