Remembering and coming to terms with Nazi crime in Krefeld
In memory of Hans Finkelstein and his son Berthold, two “stumbling stones” will be laid in front of the family’s former home in Krefeld-Uerdingen. A public event focusing on the history of the Finkelsteins and Nazi forced labor will take place in the historical sewage treatment plant on Tuesday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.). The event is being organized by the Finkelstein Foundation and the NS Documentation Center in Krefeld – Villa Merländer.

“Here and now in our city. Remembering and coming to terms with Nazi crime in Krefeld” is the theme of this evening event being held in the historical sewage treatment plant. As an introduction, Rüdiger Borstel, corporate historian at Bayer AG, will give a lecture entitled “In the footsteps of Hans Finkelstein and his family – a quarter of a century of research as a lifetime mission”.
The panel discussion “The Importance of Local Remembrance and Engagement” will be moderated by Sandra Franz, head of the NS Documentation Center in Krefeld. She will be joined by guests Johannes Finkelstein, who is the son of Berthold Finkelstein and grandson of Hans Finkelstein, student Anna Hertzler and historian Fabian Schmitz from the Krefeld NS Documentation Center.
