Finkelstein Foundation at the European Summer Academy
The 32nd GSI Summer Academy took place in Bonn, Luxemburg and Brussels in September. The topic this year was “Europe – on the path to cooperation or confrontation?!” It was the first time the Hans and Berthold Finkelstein Foundation had supported the Summer School of the Gustav Stresemann Institute.

The Summer School brings young participants from different countries together. During the Academy, they discuss European cohesion and cooperation with neighboring countries – something that is of a big importance in the challenging times and polarizations.
Annemarie Hühne-Ramm, Managing Director of the Finkelstein Foundation, led a workshop on the historical responsibility of companies. Some 40 participants from 21 countries took part.

Among others, the Gustav Stresemann Institute and the Finkelstein Foundation are united by Berthold Finkelstein, who is not only one of the people the Foundation was named for, but also a founder of the Institute.
About the Gustav Stresemann Institute
Located in Bonn, the GSI today represents a conference venue and modern center for education, debates and meetings. It was founded in 1951 by Berthold Finkelstein as an international youth office for European Movement, with the aim of encouraging the young people of Europe to work together to build a democratic and peaceful Europe.
In 1979, Finkelstein explained the idea behind the Institute:
“After the horrors of war, others also agreed with this view. Among the millions of people from many nations who were forced into interactions with each other, mostly through suffering together because of war and deportation, there were a surprising number who did not derive hatred from this, but knowledge and an obligation - should they survive the chaos - to enable understanding, cooperation and new forms of coexistence between people.”
