A review of the WerteInitiative’s new leadership seminar
An educational tour entitled “A Common Cause” took place in Berlin from November 10 to 12, 2024. It was designed for people who are already politically engaged and journalists – specifically, people who have a lasting interest in democratization and would like to focus on Jewish life and Jewish issues. The WerteInitiative project was supported by the Finkelstein Foundation and the German Music Industry Association (BVMI).
Featuring informative discussion formats and mutual dialog, the aim of the trip was to strengthen participants’ personal political commitment or journalistic background knowledge and action, and to promote a deeper understanding of cross-cutting Jewish-German issues and structures.
Held over several days, the program took participants to the political heart of Berlin. Personal conversations in the Bundestag with representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) / Christian Social Union (CSU), the Green Party and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), as well as at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and with Jewish organizations and socially relevant stakeholders, gave participants a direct insight into a wide range of topics relating to Jewish life. The program also included a visit to the Central Council of Jews in Germany, meetings with representatives of liberal and orthodox Judaism, and a panel discussion with several political foundations.
